Location: Township of Irvington
Must be a resident of Irvington New Jersey. Appointees will be required to possess a valid driver’s license. Knowledge of problems involved in parking violations preferred. Knowledge of the keeping of records and of the making of reports of conditions noted and actions taken preferred. Knowledge of the methods used in explaining procedures to varied types of persons and obtaining their cooperation in following such procedures preferred.
Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions. Ability to learn quickly from oral and written explanations and from demonstrations. Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative reports when directed and to maintain records and files. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. Ability to walk while carrying equipment for several hours (possibly during inclement weather).
All candidates are subject to a background investigation.
Issue summons to vehicles that are parked overtime on any meter in assigned area. Gathers and records data at minor accidents and other investigations. Responds to general information requests performs Police clerical tasks as required. Checks the condition of parking meters and refers repairmen to parking meters needing service. Notifies police personnel of conditions that may warrant their attention.
Gives testimony in court, prepares clear reports of significant activities and conditions, writes out summonses, checks parking meters that are vandalized, damaged or stolen, and reports such items.
Issues summons to vehicles that are parked unlawfully when patrolling assigned area. Checks for vehicles that are listed stolen by police and report them for recovery. Prepares reports as required in the performance of assigned duties.
Hours: Varying hours between 8:00 am – 10:00 pm
