It is the mission of the Irvington Fire Department to save lives and protect property by the provision of a comprehensive fire protection program designed to deliver its prevention and suppression services efficiently and effectively, and in a manner consistent with proper risk management and all duty recognized standard operating procedures.
As a long time home owner in the Township of Irvington, John F Brown started his career in Fire Services in 1991 as a Fire Fighter, where he gradually was appointed Fire Captain in 2010 and expanded his roles as Commandant of Community Relations and Public Information Officer. Regarded for ability to provide leadership in the Operations and Administration for the Fire Department he promoted fire safety education and community relations efforts with innovative programs and strategies.
John F Brown is the founder of the John Brown Civic Foundation in in Newark, NJ he is passionate about providing for the safety and welfare and improving the life of others. Self- motivated in continuous professional development, volunteering in all aspects of community relations and representing the fire department at city events.
He is known for demonstrating utmost respect and understanding for the diverse needs of Irvington residents and leads with a sense of fairness regarding same. He quickly acted as part of the command center team in providing for safety of residents including the provision of shelter, food and water during Super Storm Sandy and 17 2013-2014 snow storms.
