Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss Announces Second House in One Week Comes Down

2014_third_property_demolishedIrvington Mayor Tony Vauss announced that the third of 19 properties was demolished today.  The property is located at 136 22nd Street, Irvington. This is the second abandoned home to be taken down this week.

“We have taken down three abandoned and boarded up houses in about a month,” said Mayor Vauss. “As each building is demolished, the Township improves. We have 16 more buildings to raze in this first phase.  After that, we will focus on another group.  We are clearing these eyesores so that new development can occur in our town, bringing with it safer neighborhoods, cleaner blocks, and more tax revenue.”

Ted Green, Director of Housing and Buildings, indicated, “We are on course to meet our deadline of January 2015 for all of the 19 properties to be demolished and  the sites cleared. Neighbors in the areas of the properties are expressing that they are pleased to see this progress.”
