What We Do

Irvington Neighborhood Improvement Corporation provides assistance with the following services:

  • Emergency Food Assistance (referrals)
  • Transitional Housing
  • Holiday & Back to School Giveaways
  • Soup Kitchen (1:00pm –2:00pm Mon-Fri.)

Our Story

Since 1989, Irvington Neighborhood Improvement Corporation (INIC) has been designated as the Social Service Agency to provide community resource and referral services for the Township of Irvington.

INIC’s mission is to address the needs of individuals and families at or below the poverty level. INIC receives funding for programs such as Social Services for the Homeless and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families under the Community Service Block Grant through Essex County Division of Community Action.

In addition, we receive funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for a Transitional Housing Program for homeless families.

Deborah Smith Simpkins is a well-organized leader that is results-driven. She is a successful Irvington businesswoman with vision, strategic analytical skills, and twenty-five years of professional experience to share with the community.  She has a heart for people and is very much looking forward to the positive progress of the Irvington Neighbor Improvement Center (INIC).

Deborah is practical, compassionate, articulate and creative, with proven ability to solve difficult business situations in support of business goals and objectives. Her passion to service the community will be evident as she carries out the responsibilities of supervising all aspects of the operations of INIC, including fulfillment of the organization’s mission and strategic business objectives.

Change is ahead for Irvington and Deborah plans to be a vital part of it; ensuring that Irvington Neighbor Improvement Center is indeed recognized as a strong contributor of the Irvington Strong initiative set forth by the Mayor Elect Tony Vauss!
