Sean C. Evans, Sr.  believes in the words of Albert Einstein who once said, “Only a life lived in the service to others is worth living.” In 1996, he began his life of service in the Ironbound Section of Newark serving as a youth pastor, community basketball coach, and organizer of youth sports competitions. With the encouragement of his Pastor, Rev. Dr. L. Ronald Durham, he served his denomination in statewide youth leadership positions. In 1999, continuing in service of others, he became a middle school teacher in Newark Public Schools.

In public education, he has served as an elementary, middle, and high school teacher. He was selected as grade-level chairperson, math coach, union representative, lead teacher for the afterschool program, school leadership council chairperson, and many other leadership roles. He served for several years as Assistant Principal of Irvington High School and as Principal of Florence Avenue Elementary School.

He has served as an elected member of the Irvington School Board (2011-2013), Chaplain of Irvington Fire and Police (2014), Director of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Association’s Leadership Institute (2015-2019), Commissioner of Irvington Housing Authority (2015-2020), and Senior Pastor of the New Light Missionary Baptist Church of Newark (2005-2020). He currently serves as Irvington’s East Ward Councilman (2020-Present), the General Secretary of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Association (2019- Present), Senior Pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Paterson, NJ (2020- Present), and Principal of the Berkeley Terrace Elementary School in Irvington, NJ.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science/History (Excelsior College Albany, NY), Master of Arts in Educational Administration and Supervision (St. Peter’s University Jersey City, NJ), Certificate in Christian Ministry (New York Theological Seminary), and an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree (Virginia University of Lynchburg). He is pursuing a Doctorate in Education (College of St. Elizabeth 2018-Present).

He is the son of Deaconess Navleth D. Evans, RN, and Rev. Dr. Alvin Evans. He is married to the former Amoy Blake, and they are proud parents of Sean Jr. (2015), Sean III (2018).

In the words of St. Francis of Assisi “Where there is discord, may we bring harmony; where there is error may we bring truth; where there is doubt, may we bring faith; and where there is despair, may we bring hope.”
