Irvington, NJ, August 7, 2014:
Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss proudly announces the services INIC has provided to Irvington families and individuals in need, since his administration assumed office on July 1, 2014. He also urged more Irvington residents to seek the assistance of INIC.
Since July 1, 2014, INIC has given 279 food baskets to families in need. In addition to the food baskets, participants come to INIC’s 346 16th Street location at 1:00pm daily to receive a nourishing meal provided by the INIC soup kitchen. The staff interview some of the families to identify their various needs and challenges, and are very often able to connect them with resources to meet many of their challenges.
“INIC is able to assist our residents in finding a job, get emergency assistance, and help with housing and utilities, “said Mayor Vauss. “I want our Township residents to know that we are here to help them and INIC has the resources to make life better for many who find themselves facing a rough time. It is important that they visit INIC to talk about their challenges and allow the staff to find the resources that might help them overcome them.”
Deborah Simpkins, the Executive Director of INIC indicated: “As we distributed hundreds of food baskets, we were able to identify several families who were able to prove hardship. This determination enabled INIC to provide them with food for a week at a time. I’m encouraging people to come in and talk to us to let us know what challenges they are facing. If they can provide proof and documents of their needs, we will exhaust all measures to assist them in every way we can. We provide a variety of services to the community but we can’t meet needs if we don’t know they exist.”
Some of the services provided by INIC include, but are not limited to: assistance in resume writing, job placement, emergency assistance, transitional housing, and assistance in paying utility bills.
