Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss participated in the unveiling of a plaque dedicated to the public service provided by the late Freeholder Bilal Beasley by County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo. The former Irvington councilman and Essex County freeholder passed away in late 2014. The dedication took place on Wednesday, May 20th, at the Essex County Veteran’s Courthouse. It was attended by approximately 100 people from throughout Essex County. All had been impacted in some way by Mr. Beasley.

“Freeholder Beasley served the township of Irvington at the county level as a freeholder. He also represented the residents as a councilman,” said Mayor Vauss. “He was a true public servant who worked long and hard for Irvington. He is missed badly by many of us. I am pleased Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo bestowed this honor on one of Irvington’s finest. He touched my life for so many years as a mentor, friend, and father figure. It was amazing to hear others speak of the opportunities he provided to so many to not only move forward in their careers, but also to provide opportunities for others while making the county great.”

The plague is located in a walking and sitting area outside of the Hall of Records. It begins with a statute of Rosa Parks, and includes plagues in remembrance of such Essex County greats as Phillip Thigpen and Raymond Durkin.

The Township of Irvington will be erecting a memorial for former Councilman Beasley in the next several months.
